Black Flag Survival: October 2024 to May 2025 Highlights

Working at Recoil Offgrid

It has been 8 months since I started working for Recoil Offgrid Magazine and time sure does fly! It seems like just yesterday that my friend, and now boss, Patrick Diedrich sent me a text that changed my life! I started this website to just enjoy my passion for writing. I never imagined it would lead me to be a published writer or an Editor of a major publication.

My lock picking article published in issue 66 of Recoil Offgrid Magazine.

Since then, I have been knee-deep in writing and editing, traveling to events, and attending assorted classes. Besides the fun stuff, I also spend time in meetings. I network with businesses and writers and do all the typical stuff that comes along with a job.

It’s fast paced, the work flow never really stops, and the best laid plans often change at the drop of a hat! While that sounds stressful, it is actually one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done – Having the opportunity to shape the content and direction of a major publication that teaches people the importance of preparedness and self-reliance is a dream come true! As it turns out, they seem to like me too!

A commendation given to me for my work at Recoil Offgrid.

Raise The Flag Podcast

I continue to work with Tom from Knives by Nuge and Heather from PNWBUSHCRAFT on the Raise the Flag Podcast. While sometimes travel and events get in the way, we have new episodes releasing almost every Monday! If you are not already tuning in, check out the Raise the Flag Podcast Here!

Blade Show Atlanta

As usual I will be attending Blade Show in Atlanta June 6th through 8th. While I have traditionally helped cover The KPL and Knives by Nuge booths, this year I will be attending in a different capacity. On top of providing coverage for Recoil Offgrid, I will also be teaching two classes at Blade U this year!

I was featured in the June Issue Blade Magazine as a Blade U Instructor!

On Friday I will be teaching a class with iconic jungle guide Joe Flowers of Bushcraft Global! We will be diving into the design details and use of his Brakimo Design made by TOPS Knives and showing off the latest version!

Saturday, I will be teaching a course all about choosing the right knife for the job based on different blade grinds, materials, and design elements.

If you’ll be at the show and want to attend my classes, or any other Blade U classes, check out the Blade Show Website.

Recent Writing Work

I’ve compiled a list of links to my recent writing work at Recoil Offgrid! Sorry this is a long list, as it covers October 2024 to May 2025. I’ll Do my best to post monthly recaps going forward!

Much more to come my friends! As always your continued support is appreciated!
