Black Flag Survival is a project dedicated to bringing a lifetime of wilderness knowledge, skills, experiences, and philosophies to those who yearn to experience the great outdoors and lead a more self-sufficient lifestyle.
Black Flag Survival was founded by Nick Italiano as an Instagram Page in 2017 and has since grown to multiple social media platforms and this website. The website features written work by Nick and a number of other talented individuals from the outdoor community. In reading our articles we hope you will learn something new, find some inspiration to get outdoors, or find that perfect piece of gear you were looking for!
In 2022 Nick co-founded the Black Flag Outdoor Academy with Tom “Nuge” Nugent of Knives by Nuge. The goal of the Academy is to empower novice outdoors people to get out there and have fun safely by teaching them how to utilize the proper mindset, skill set, and gear set. In early 2023 the Black Flag Outdoor Academy launched a weekly podcast to discuss topics related to the courses and the great outdoors.
We do not claim to be wilderness skills experts, in fact we do not believe wilderness skills experts exist! Each of us are students on a life long journey; learning from every error in judgement, lack of preparation, and injury. We hope you will join us on this journey, and together we will celebrate our accomplishments and learn from our mistakes!
