Natura Aequi Sumus, Virtute Distinguimur
This latin phrase translates to “we are equal in nature, distinguished by virtue” is at it’s heart that is what Black Flag Survival is all about. We are all born blank slates, what we become is the sum of our virtue. Our value as people has nothing to do with our skin color, socioeconomic status, or family background – we are defined by the sum of our deeds.
What is Virtue
In this case virtue is more then just deeds – it is the our knowledge, skills, and experiences that help define who we are. Each of these things influence our actions and behaviors in both normal and high-stress situations. Beyond just influencing our actions – knowledge, skills, and experiences they help us develop our identity and our personal code.
The Black Flag Survival Code
I. Self-Reliance is not a skill, it’s a lifestyle. Living a self-reliant lifestyle is a principle value here at Black Flag Survival. Developing the knowledge and skills to provide your own food, treat your own ailments and injuries, take ownership of your health and well-being, and being prepared for the emergencies and hardships are all part of leading a self-reliant lifestyle.
II. Always Learning, Always Sharing. We do not believe in the mastery of any subject matter. We are all life long students who continue to acquire knowledge and develop our skills. Instead of seeking to become an expert, become a leader who can guide and inspire others and pass on the knowledge and skills we have acquired.
III. Independent Thought and Open-Minded Attitudes. Our identity is not defined by a group, social circle, employment, or political affiliation. Each of us must think freely and independently to develop our own sense of self and purpose. Be open to new ideas and concepts – it can be an opportunity to see a new perspective or learn something.
IV. Find Your Tribe. While we value independence, we know the concept of the lone wolf survivalist is nothing more then a plot of a good work of fiction. Community is our support system in good times and bad, a a way to learn, and an opportunity to teach. Seek others that share your passions and build your community.
