First Look: Offensive Industries Fenrir M

by Nick Italiano

Today we are looking at the Fenrir M made by Josh at Offensive Industries. Before I dive into the details of the knife, let’s talk a little about Offensive Industries; Josh is an up and coming knife maker who started making knives in 2021. His goal is to create self-defense knives that can also be utilized for everyday cutting tasks. In addition to his knives, Josh produces Ambidextrous Pocket Kydex sheaths. These sheaths are designed to have the blade go in either way so the knife can be easily carried in any pocket and be drawn and stowed easily by a left or right handed person.

Specs

The Fenrir M is 6 inches overall with a 2.5 inch blade that has a 2 inch sharpened portion, making this knife legal to carry in most U.S. Jurisdictions. The blade stock is 3/32 of an inch, making it excellent at slicing tasks. This particular version is made from Nitro-V stainless steel, which provides an excellent balance between toughness, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. While this is not designed as a bushcraft type knife the spine is plenty sharp for scraping tinder and striking a ferro rod if need be to help you get your fire started. This version features a jute wrapped handle, though he has versions in a number of handle scale materials. Thanks to the thin blade stock and wrapped handle this is a very lightweight knife coming in at just 2.12 ounces, making it comfortable to carry in just about any attire, especially with the included Ambi Sheath.

Sheath

The Ambi Sheath is made from kydex with a Discreet Carry Systems clip. The clip provides unbelievable retention to your pocket, you certainly won’t be losing it! The kydex sheath itself is made in-house and as mentioned above allows for carry in any pocket and the blade can be put away with the edge in either direction for maximum ease of carry for lefties or righties. The sheath is friction fit, but because it is custom-made and molded for each knife the retention is excellent and there is no rattle while carrying it. The friction fit also provides the benefit of a near-silent draw adding to the overall discreet nature of the package. The sheath carries in your pocket nicely with just enough of the handle sticking out to remain stealthy while giving you ease of access. The sheath weighs just 1.37 ounces making the total weight of the package 3.49 ounces.

In Use

The Fenrir M, like many other Offensive Industries designs, features a large ergonomic handle designed for comfortable forward and reverse grip. The blade has a tip that is primarily designed for piercing tasks, but is more than capable of tackling any of your day to day cutting tasks. The version I am testing has an exceptionally well wrapped jute handle that is both comfortable and grippy. It is clear that this knife is designed to lock into your hand and stay there, which is very practical in harder use or high stress situations.

The compact size and light weight of this package makes the Fenrir M an ideal choice for easy pocket carry, especially in areas that have prohibitive blade length laws. This knife was designed for EDC and it does very well in that space, even so it is a great option for some minor outdoor work. The size of the knife and the secure sheath make the Fenrir M a good companion for a hike, trail run, or trail ride on your bike.

The Fenrir M and the Ambi sheath, like all Offensive Industries products, are made by hand in the USA and retails for $245. Be sure to check one out on the Offensive Industries website and give them a follow on Instagram.
